Lock Picking Course
Station 3 - Pin Tumbler Padlock
Assuming that all went well with the pin tumbler deadbolt, you can now try the pin tumbler padlock.
Inspect the lock: Inspect the lock the same way as you did with the deadbolt. Count the pins, feel the force it requires to push the pins.
Methods: You will use the same method, scrubbing, and the same tools, wrench and snake shaped rake, for this lock.
Which way to Turn?: Unlike the deadbolt, this padlock will open regardless of the turning direction. This is fairly common with padlocks but not always the rule.
Coordination: The padlock may be more difficult because you need to hold the lock and apply torque and scrub the pins all at the same time. Try holding the padlock in the same hand that you use for the wrench, with a finger through the lock clasp. Then, insert the wrench and apply torque using your thumb. Use your other hand for the pick.
Practice: If you got the deadbolt this should not be any more difficult other than the coordination factor. Again, practice for speed.
